A Time To Chill (Out)

A Time To Chill (Out)

I want to share a story with everyone today. I just ask that you close you eyes and open your minds to hear the message.

A few years ago, there was some work done on a home. There were some renovations that needed to be done on a house that wasn’t that old, but it still needed some work. The homeowners elected to hire someone to come in and renovate and restore things that were there already. The house wasn’t in bad shape, but it was just time to make things a little better. There was a lot of calling around and debating this price and that price; people offering bids to come in and do this and that, but ultimately a person was chosen to come in and do the job. The family was comfortable with their choice and opened up their home to the contractor. When the contractor showed up to do the job he did some of what he promised the first few days. He tore down everything that was there before and started to lay down a good foundation on the outside. There was evidence of his work all around the yard and even the neighbors could look and see that things were changing around this house. Everything seemed to be going well…for a while. Then the contractor started getting comfortable and not handling business the way that he should have. The work was starting to look like garbage and deadlines were coming and going. Anyone with any sense would have cut their losses and hired someone else after a while, but the family was deeply invested and signed another short term contract either out of obligation or stupidity…who knows. After a renewed contract, it seemed as though the quality of work being done to the house became worse and worse. He left the yard a mess and didn’t clean up after himself. There was some debate on the shady way of how he received his bids and the work that he did was piss poor at best. Eventually he finished the job and while not up to standards, he was paid and left the home and the neighborhood.

One day the family was taking a look at the work that was done and realized that they needed someone else to come in and fix everything that the previous contractor had done. They interviewed different contractors and decided to give the bid to someone that had less experience in the field, but had the passion, skill and wherewithal to complete the job. Once hired, the contractor sat down and addressed the family stating that this job may take a while to complete because he had to tear down everything that the previous contractor had done because the foundation was built wrong and he didn’t want to just fix and repair, but build and restore. He also stated that he didn’t want this to be a band-aid fix; he wanted to leave something secure for the owners to be able to build on later. So the contractor came in and tore the foundation of the previous contractor completely apart. He hired other workers that shared his vision and passion and they started to demolish everything that was done before. Others in the neighborhood began to complain a little because they didn’t like the noise being made and they really liked the contractor that was there before. Changes continued to happen though and the renovations to this house while cosmetically were hard to deal with at first were ultimately beginning to make the entire neighborhood look even better and more appealing. While correcting the mistakes of the previous contractor had taken time, money and hard work; the new contractor is continuing to lay down a stable foundation in order to build up not only the home, but also the neighborhood. Now…..imagine that in terms of presidents past term and present term. It’s hard cleaning up and correcting the messes of others, so in the words of Guy; Let’s Chill. That’s my Truth and if you embrace it, it will set your mind free. Remember, Love God, Love You and Love people.
